Local sites sell used/surplus telecomm and datacom equipment on their own, and have it packaged and shipped. As a result, internal asset management/accounting cannot be performed accurately.
Retired equipment is shipped to a corporate warehouse facility where it is inventoried and held for potential redeployment. Yet, only a small percentage of the equipment is actually ever redeployed. As a result, the equipment does not get written off, and extra space, manpower and logistical support are required to keep it warehoused.
Equipment is disposed of regardless of value.
